I hit up TrueClot to see if we could take a look at their Hemorrhage Control Training Kits and they graciously sent us one to take a look at. The kit we received was a gunshot wound with a bone insert. These are used to practice wound packing for Stop the Bleed, TCCC, TECC and more. It gives you a durable prop to use for practice and training. One of the unique things is that their blood simulant, when used in conjunction with their rolled or z-fold gauze actually creates reasonably realistic clots. It’s likely worth the money for trainers or someone that wants to practice regularly as it will last for a long while.
Don’t forget, when packing a wound:
- Expose the wound
- Identify the bleed
- Pack towards the heart
- Pack to the bone
- Direct pressure
