  • Eighth Circuit does a thing
    • A three-judge panel from the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Minnesota’s ban on issuing carry permits to 18-20-year-olds is unconstitutional. This decision aligns with the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 Bruen decision, which requires gun control laws to have historical support. The case was challenged by the Second Amendment Foundation and other groups. The ruling emphasized that Minnesota failed to provide sufficient evidence to justify the age-based restriction on carrying handguns for self-defense.
  • CA Infringes
    • California has implemented a Merchant Category Code (MCC) for firearm retailers, tracking purchases made with credit cards. The code aims to monitor firearm sales but does not specify individual items bought. Critics argue that this measure targets law-abiding citizens rather than criminals and poses risks of data misuse. Despite initial support, several states and credit card companies are rethinking its implementation. The initiative reflects broader efforts to control gun purchases indirectly through financial institutions.
  • MA hates freedom
    • Massachusetts has passed a sweeping new gun control bill that introduces significant changes to the state’s firearm laws. This legislation tightens regulations on unregistered “ghost guns,” enhances restrictions on assault-style weapons, and includes measures for stricter firearm data collection. The bill passed despite significant opposition from gun owners and some lawmakers. Critics argue it infringes on Second Amendment rights, while supporters claim it will improve public safety.
      • Full registration of ALL guns.
      • Onerous licensing and administrative requirements on retailers. For example, all guns in inventory need to be registered with the state before they are even sold.
      • Bans all legally owned magazines with a capacity greater than 10 rounds. Those standard-capacity magazines already lawfully owned would be barred from transfer.
      • State police would create a roster of banned semi-automatic rifles and a database of all guns.
      • Commissions to study “technologies” like microstamping that have already been proven by independent peer review research to be flawed and unreliable.
      • Live-fire requirement despite the fact there are very few public ranges where this can be done.
      • Publicly searchable in a database of all lawful firearm owners.
      • Creates another government database to issue serial numbers for all firearms.
      • Small, independent retailers will be saddled with inventory they can no longer sell.
  • Fire up the stills boys
    • A federal judge in Texas ruled that the ban on homemade liquor is unconstitutional, rejecting the government’s justifications for the prohibition. The judge argued that the ban does not align with the federal government’s power to collect taxes or regulate interstate commerce, as it affects noncommercial producers who do not owe taxes. The ruling marks a victory for personal freedoms and limits government overreach.

As for the podcast, been listening for a few years, and never miss a podcast. Great show. Went back and listened to 171 the other day, that was great. I think Nick talked in that episode more than he has in every show since. Living in Kentucky Buffalo Trace is on my whiskey shelf all the time.

Thanks for entertaining me for a few hours of my work week.
