Hands on: Tac-Con 3MR Trigger system

How much time have I spent on triggers lately?  More than I care to admit!  Triggers are probably my favorite upgrade to an AR-15 and arguably the one with the most bang for the buck, pun intended.

We had time to talk with and take a look at the 3MR trigger system from Tac-Con.

What’s unique about this trigger system is that the fire select has safe, fire and their 3rd mode in place of full auto.

The 3rd mode has a positive reset that dramatically reduces the split times between shots. The positive reset characteristic is achieved by transferring the force from the bolt carrier through the trigger assembly to assist the trigger back onto the front sear. As a result, this gives the firearm the fastest reset possible. Both semi and 3rd mode positions exhibit a non-adjustable 4.5 pound trigger pull weight.

So what does that mean to you?  It means that you can pull the trigger super fast and the reset pushes the trigger back into your finger with a minimal reset and allows you to simulate automatic fire to a degree.  Think Slide-Fire but in your fire control group.

The company reps were able to make this thing scream and it often sounded like a slower cycle full auto rifle however for those of us on our first tries it was less successful.  I think with even a minor bit of practice you can pick it up and be ripping rounds downrange faster than you count.

The companies 3rd mode is patented and I think that the system has been priced out of most peoples range.  It can be yours for around $500.  The ATF has issued an opinion letter and at this time, the 3MR is legal for sale.

Bottom line, I liked it and it was fun and I’d like to try it some more and see how much faster a little practice gets me however the price tag is too steep for me to justify but I definitely recommend checking it out if you get the opportunity.
