frame-by-frame recoil measurement

“but you know, sometimes it's good to have a, a walkthrough that just at least tells you that you're going in the right direction. Um, all right. So couple of things here real quick. I wanted to just, I went shooting a couple of times in the last few days and I was curious about recoil and measurement because you know the prime radian i really feel like it shoots pretty well pretty uh pretty well and then i had a comped gun and so i built a tool to like measure recoil just kind of just for me and it was kind of surprising so i wanted to show it to you guys here uh i'm going to share my screen now and i'll i'll describe it for the people who are listening it's not incredibly complicated or anything that you need to see to understand uh okay so i had where is it okay so i had an image uh a still or a video i mean of this is the this is going to be the rxm the um ruger rxm and so i basically i built my tool where i just put it midline on the the top of the barrel for the start frame and then i go forward a couple frames until it's at its highest arc and then i click again and then it measures it so just the basic rxm no comp or anything it does have a flashlight on it so this is an incredibly scientific because it'll be differently uh but the muzzle rise between the starting frame and the end frame, which is, uh, three frames, 50 milliseconds is going to be 9.58% of the picture height.”

“It's unimportant. Uh, but it is 9.58% of the picture height. And these are all the same picture height. So then I went to the rost martin rm1f the full size and it has a mischief machine comp on it and measured that one and this one is 6.05 percent of the picture height and i was like oh three percent improvement that's actually that's pretty good that's that's very interesting so then i went to the canic prime radian which has the ramjet and the afterburner from uh radian and measured that one and that one is 3.28 percent of the picture height so again uncomped nine a little over nine percent uh compensated rm1f like six percent and then the mechanic prime radian three percent so it is a clear distinction that it works pretty well and i know a couple times i went shooting with a buddy country boy guns and he was like yeah the canic prime radian you shoot like way faster and the reason why is it's like returning uh returning to my line of sight faster and quicker and i can pull the trigger faster because i can acquire the dot again uh even faster and i just thought that that was actually a very interesting um it shows it also shows some like side drift and things like that and it's even markedly uh different on the canic prime radian as well so from nine percent to six percent to three percent with the the prime radian i just thought was a very interesting result i actually want to do this a lot more scientifically now that i because now it's got me curious so you know have guns that are in the same class whether it's like a four inch barrel five inch barrel 3.6 inch barrel have them in the same class test them standard comped and you know just to like kind of build a database of all these different numbers uh just to get an idea of the recoil and uh you know i'll have to like build this out a little bit better to show it'll probably be midline of the barrel is where i'll eventually want to go and then as as we go higher we'll do midline of the barrel I think it's pretty cool.”

recoil control and return to target

“Why in the hell did everyone bitch and moan about the reciprocating charging handle on these things? The handle going forward on each shot seems to settle the gun back on the target. That is for what little recoil there is for 5.56 and holds open when you're out as a visible indicator.”

optic wear concerns on hard recoiling guns

“So what is it? Is it that SF dudes hate change and don't want to retrain? Then the pretend internet warlords hear that and just go parroting well SOCOM hates it, so it sucks. I know the 17 beats up optics.”
